Reward System Apps for Kids

Since Yasmin became the big sister at 5 years old, me and my wife thought she need to learn more on responsibility and consequences. Consequences means, she need to learn that for every actions, there will be a reward or punishment depending on the behavior.

Initially we use a verbal-reward way, a technic that I believe used by many parents. The kid will be expecting a reward after a good behavior/action. The problem is, we sometime tends to forget the promised reward that could lead to a bad example for the kids.

So we try an apps called Kiddy on Google Play Store. It is a premium apps with in-app purchase. The layout is nice with bright yellow color. The function is very straight forward and easy to use.

Kiddy Apps

Home layout of the app.

On the front page, there are two main buttons: the smile point (yellow color) to add the kiddy point and the angry point (black color) to deduct the accumulated points.

Points history record

This is the example how we record the points. During this period, we are in Sarawak. With the uncles and aunts pampering Yasmin, sometime it was hard to make her to listen to our instruction. But this apps makes it easier. The black color point (5 points) was deducted from the account when Yasmin downloaded an apps without permission.

Point redemption

A reward can be set within the apps. A bigger reward will require higher point to redeem. For example, above is a 10 points redeemed by Yasmin for a tube of Pringles.

Wishlist screen

This is the wishlist screen, where we can view the current active objective/wish. At the moment, Yasmin is asking for a foot scooter. We told her that she requires 50 points to get the scooter and she agrees. So far the agreement stands according to the plan and we'll see again in a month time.

For those who are interested to have a look on this apps, you may find it here.
Unfortunately, it is not yet available on iOS.
